Stu Carpenter is desperate to convince the social worker he can provide a good home for his granddaughter Eliza Woodrow and give her all the support she needs. ‘How did Picasso know he was an artist until someone gave him a paintbrush? Or Miles Davis until someone gave him a trumpet?’ he reasons. Someone else who enjoys blowing her own trumpet is Fern Lindon. She thinks her husband Howard is acting strangely and asks him: ‘What’s Marvin Gaye-ing?’ He replies: ‘There’s nothing going on.’ Unfortunately for Fern, the police heard her whereabouts on the grapevine and they turn up to arrest her.
