Evelyn Plummer thinks Fiz Dobbs indulges her daughter Hope too much. Drawing upon William Shakespeare’s As You Like It to make her point, Evelyn says: ‘“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players” – except for Hope, who owns the theatre.’ It was probably an easy line to memorise for Maureen Lipman, who plays Evelyn, because she once trod the boards as Celia in a Royal Shakespeare Company production of the play.
At The Rovers, Craig Tinker continues to share details of his errant behaviour with Kit Green, unaware that his fellow cop has a hidden agenda. ‘Ride or die,’ says Kit, deploying hip-hop terminology to show the strength of their ‘bond’. When Tyrone Dobbs puts his foot in it with Kevin Webster, he blames his verbal clumsiness on his ‘size eights’. Kevin points out the saying is ‘Me and my size nines’, but Tyrone is having none of it because he wears a size eight.
We see more evidence of Kit’s dodgy side when he worms his way into the fake designer clothing scam. He tells wheeler-dealer Sid he can continue selling the T-shirts in return for a cut of the profits. He also lies that there’s a Line Of Duty-style surveillance team watching his every move. When Sid protests, Kit holds back from telling him to ‘Houl yer wheesht’ (shut up) like Line Of Duty’s Ted Hastings.
