Over brekkie at Roy’s Rolls, Laurence Reeves, Sean Tully and his son Dylan Wilson are all looking forward to a Halloween cinema trip. They’re going to see the 1980 horror film The Watcher In The Woods, starring Bette Davis. Meanwhile, another big-screen star is dropped into conversation when Summer Spellman bigs up her Spidey senses to Aaron Sandford. Just remember, Summer, with great power there must also come great responsibility.

Tracy McDonald is on the warpath (when is she not?), threatening to play the 1941 song Chattanooga Choo Choo on Daniel Osbourne’s head. If that wasn’t a scary enough thought for Halloween, Spider Nugent is likened to A Nightmare On Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger when he turns up at Griff Reynolds’ fancy-dress party. Spider claims he’s come as Peter Parker, which sparks a debate about whether the man beneath the Spider-Man mask wears glasses. Superman’s bespectacled alter ego Clark Kent is confusingly thrown into the mix, until a partygoer dressed as a droog from A Clockwork Orange unpeels the puzzle. The situation takes yet another cultural swerve when Griff gives Max Turner a Charlie Chaplin makeover.

At Max’s house, Peter Barlow turns up to tell David Platt he’s worried about Max. ‘Let me guess,’ says David. ‘Him and Bill Gates and the lizard people are planning to take over the world.’ He’s a little wide of the mark, although one of Spider-Man’s deadliest enemies is The Lizard. That’s the monstrous reptilian supervillain, not the peninsula in Cornwall. Unfortunately, Peter’s warning fails to trigger David’s Spidey sense.
