‘Give that woman a Michelin Star,’ is Ryan Connor’s sarcastic response when Carla Barlow tries to tempt him with some manky food from the fridge. Michelin launched its star system for rewarding fine dining establishments in 1926 and the company’s famous stack-of-tyres logo dates back even further. The Michelin Man was created in 1894 and is one of the world’s oldest active trademarks. His nickname Bibendum is taken from a line in the Roman poet Horace’s Book Of Odes that means ‘now is the time to drink’. However, Ryan isn’t keen on drinking or eating anything because he thinks Carla’s snack offering sounds like a ‘salmonella butty’. It’s a safe bet there won’t be any Michelin Stars handed out in this episode.
As Daisy Midgeley sets off for court to give evidence at Justin Rutherford’s trial, Glenda Shuttleworth teaches her some breathing exercises to help her stay calm. ‘He, hi, ho, ha, hoo,’ intones Glenda. ‘Fe, fi, fo, fum,’ says Daisy, straying into Jack And The Beanstalk panto territory.
