Beth Sutherland is daydreaming at Underworld, gazing wistfully at a photo of Marco Sweeney on his social media page and singing Don’t You Want Me by The Human League. The mood is more nightmarish than daydreamy at The Rovers. Glenda Shuttleworth tells Daisy Midgeley that Justin Rutherford’s home invasion sounds like something out of a horror movie. She compares it to Friday The 13th and Halloween, adding that the psychopathic antagonist in the former was also called Justin. Jenny Connor establishes her gorehound credentials by pointing out the masked slasher was actually called Jason.
Back at the factory, Beth and Fiz Dobbs are still squabbling over Hope Stape. Fiz says it’s important to remember that Hope is only 12 years old, but Beth argues that Genghis Khan was also 12 once. Not au fait with despots, Faye Windass inquires if he’s a boxer. Luckily, Sally Metcalfe is on hand – like Google made flesh – to clarify that Amir Khan was a boxer and Genghis Khan was a 13th Century warlord.
Beth makes up with her husband Kirk at Roy’s Rolls, but as soon as he goes to the toilet she salivates over Marco’s social media pics again. Glenda catches her red-handed, but Beth says she’s just checking if Marco still has her Human League record. The vinyl in question is a special edition of Hard Times/Love Action (I Believe In Love) from 1981. It’s listed on Etsy for 15 quid, so maybe she’s just being money savvy.
