Daisy Midgeley feels nervous as she stands on a stool at The Rovers, hanging a Happy New Year sign behind the bar. Glenda Shuttleworth puts Daisy’s fears into perspective, saying: ‘Dangerous? You wanna do a Brotherhood Of Man routine in six-inch heels while you’re halfway round the Bay of Biscay.’ Glenda scrutinises the drab sign and wonders where the magic and razzmatazz is. Daisy points out that she’s confusing The Rovers with Harry Potter On Ice.
Sally and Tim Metcalfe are spending New Year’s Eve at The Rovers. Sally says she couldn’t put up with Tim sulking through The Sound Of Music a minute longer. For Tim, the charms of The Lonely Goatherd obviously can’t compete with ‘drinking beer with the foam afloat’. Carla and Peter Barlow are also in the pub and Mary Taylor tells them they remind her of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. How’s that for magic and razzmatazz, Glenda? Happy New Year!
