Elaine Jones and Stephen Reid are debating what constitutes a classic movie. Elaine doesn’t buy Rocky’s exalted status, but she agrees with Stephen’s choice of Roman Holiday. Shona Platt is impressed how well Elaine has looked after Stephen and his injured arm, comparing her to Florence Nightingale. Maybe the lady with the lamp can shed some light on Stephen’s nefarious activities.
At Hope Stape’s school, Fiz Stape and Tyrone Dobbs have a meeting with counsellor Colin Wilmer. ‘Some students call me Colin The Caterpillar. I don’t mind it. I like cake,’ he joshes. After hearing a brief synopsis of the couple’s complicated relationship, Colin looks like he wants to hide inside a chrysalis. Colin is played by actor Lucas Hare, who co-hosts a Bob Dylan podcast. Dylan recently revealed he’s a big fan of Corrie and has been offered a cobbles cameo. Watch this space.
When an irate Tim Metcalfe invites Steve McDonald outside at Street Cabs to settle their differences, Eileen manages to keep the peace by pointing out Steve is on crutches. ‘What are you going to do? Use them as lightsabers?’ she asks. Well done, Eileen. As Yoda said: ‘Anger, fear, aggression. The dark side are they.’
Fiz and Tyrone’s already complex history takes another twist when they agree to remarry. Tyrone likes the idea of a Simply Red tribute band for the reception, but Fiz vetoes someone like Simply Rouge belting out Holding Back The Years. Other tribute acts (Red Mick, Simply Re Red, Simply Red-ish, etc) are also available. Sarah Barlow’s pitch for her new business doesn’t go well, which inspires her uncle Stephen to show off his Beatles knowledge. He reassures her that even the Fab Four experienced rejection when Dick Rowe tuned them down for Decca Records in 1962. Who knows, in a parallel universe where The Beatles didn’t subsequently sign for Parlophone, are they available for the wedding reception of that reality’s Fiz and Tyrone? Stephen is, of course, a business failure, but his family don’t know that and they nickname him ‘Rockefeller’ after the American tycoon John D. Rockefeller (1839-1937).
Because Adam Barlow is acting as a mediator in the juvenile tiff between Steve and Tim, Eileen labels him ‘Judge Judy’. Meanwhile, after Maria Connor finds herself turned into a Grinch meme, Alya Nazir laments the state of our clickbait-driven society. She’s very disparaging about a world where people waste their time concerning themselves with the activities of Lee Latchford-Evans from Steps. Business must be pretty slow at The Furniture Shop because Gary Windass is able to inform her Steps are back on tour. Take note, Fiz and Tyrone.
