Daniel Osbourne and Daisy Midgeley have temporarily moved into No 1 Coronation Street, prompting Tracy McDonald to complain about Daisy murdering Dua Lipa’s Levitating in the shower. At No 9, Fiz Stape calls Tyrone Dobbs ‘Tyson’ – she could mean heavyweight boxing champions Mike or Fury – to mock his pugilistic prowess after he chinned Nick Tilsley. Around the corner at 19A Rosamund Street, Billy Mayhew plans a night in with Summer Spellman watching Casablanca. Here’s looking at the telly, kid.
When Sean Tully asks Tracy if buying flowers for Laurence Reeves will patch up their relationship, Tracy predictably points out she isn’t Mystic Meg. From a relationship that’s in danger of wilting to one that’s just budding, Max Turner and Lauren Bolton have been to see Top Gun: Maverick. The Street’s answer to Kermode and Mayo give the fighter-jet drama a good review, with Lauren rating it her top one of the year. They also agree that they’re not fans of Benedict Cumberbatch, so Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness gets marked down on their Best Of list. But if Lauren, her dad Reece and his right-wing nutjob mates have their way, Max will be binge-watching Leni Riefenstahl box sets before too long.
When Daniel uses the word ‘behest’ in an argument with Tracy about her broken toilet, she retorts: ‘Don’t give me all that Shakespeare.’ To be fair to Daniel, Shakespeare only used behest three times in his complete works. He had loads of words for a toilet, though – jakes, jordan, bench-hole, stool, to name just a few.
