Golf innuendo is in full swing at The Corner Shop, with the Alahan clan all chipping in with puns based on balls and things that go in holes. Dev may or may not do an impression of Sean Connery, who was a keen golfer, but it’s so bad it could just as easily have been Ronnie Corbett. Young Funeral Director Of The Year nominee Todd Grimshaw is having his photo taken by Glenda Shuttleworth for promotional purposes. Dressed to the nines in a top hat, suit and tie, he looks like Lord Snooty from The Beano. Or Jacob Rees-Mogg on Dress-down Friday. At The Rovers, Jenny Connor is the only person serving because of Glenda’s photographic duties (‘off playing David Bailey’, as Jenny puts it, flattering her barmaid by comparing her with the legendary lensman).
Corrie makes a rare foray into flashback, as we discover that Stephen Reid picked Sarah Barlow’s paternity test letter out of a bin. We’ve been assuming Adam Barlow isn’t Sarah’s baby daddy, but now it’s revealed that she didn’t actually read the result. The filmic techniques continue outside The Rovers, with out-of-focus camerawork, zooms and skewed angles being deployed to represent Adam’s distress during a panic attack. David Bailey would be proud.
Coronation Street episode 11015/11016. Originally aired 26th July 2023.
