Nick Tilsley doesn’t think his son Sam Blakeman should be visiting Highfield Prison to talk to a criminal like Harvey Gaskell. He suggests Sam should be going to see Little Mix instead. Understandably, Sam is appalled by the notion. On the topic of the law, Alya Nazir talks to solicitor Adam Barlow about the way lawyers are portrayed on the big screen, which inspires him to quote Paul Newman’s character Frank Galvin in the 1982 courtroom drama The Verdict: ‘You were a bag man for the boys downtown and still are.’ Alya hasn’t got a clue what Adam is on about, while Yasmeen Metcalfe goes into a reverie at the thought of Paul Newman’s baby blues.
Tracy McDonald just can’t stay away from her daughter Amy’s flatshare. ‘Guess who’s back,’ says Amy. ‘And it isn’t Eminem.’ Meanwhile, Chesney Brown has been babysitting his niece Hope Stape, who isn’t in the best of moods. ‘She did slam a few doors and throw a few things,’ Chesney reassures Hope’s mum Fiz when she comes to collect her. ‘But it wasn’t like full-blown Exorcist.’ Talk about damning with faint praise.
Following on from the mention of Eminem earlier in the episode, slim and shady Lauren Bolton taste-shames Max Turner for having The Best K-Pop Songs Of All Time on his phone. He blames it on his half-sister Lily Platt. Perhaps Lauren was hoping Max would have a Now That’s What I Call Oi playlist? Still in the world of rock and pop, at The Rovers Bernie Winter describes Dev Alahan as a bad Elvis impersonator. Don’t be cruel to a heart that’s true, Bernie.
