David Platt awards Nick Tilsley the unwelcome nickname ‘Golden Balls’ – not because of any association with David Beckham, but in honour of Nick and Toyah Habeeb conceiving after a one-night stand. It was revealed as Victoria Beckham’s pet name for her husband when the couple appeared on Parkinson in 2008. At a creepy Altovalent Institute seminar, Leanne Battersby is encouraged to confront her inner demons by chanting ‘I want to be free’. Rather than a moment of catharsis that’s designed to heal, she sounds like she’s doing a deranged karaoke version of the sampled dialogue from 1966 biker film The Wild Angels on the Primal Scream song Loaded. At Viaduct Bistro, Liam Connor is celebrating his 15th birthday. When Gary Windass suggests watching a film after the party, Kirk Sutherland says he’s keen to see Barbie. He reckons people often call him Ken because he looks like Ryan Gosling. In 2019, prior to the casting of Gosling in the Barbie film, David Beckham came third in a poll asking who should play Ken. Kirk didn’t place.
