‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men – and women – to do nothing,’ quotes Roy Cropper, in relation to people standing up to Griff Reynolds and his bully boys. Roy’s a clever man, so he probably knows the quote is often wrongly attributed to 18th Century statesman and philosopher Edmund Burke. Meanwhile, Tim Metcalfe is pining for his old jacket, which Steve McDonald has now taken possession of. Tim wore it to Leeds Festival in 2002 and he swears Dave Grohl and Jarvis Cocker both cast covetous looks in his direction. Foo Fighters and Pulp did play Leeds that year, so there may be a grain of truth in Tim’s claim.

In the Street Cars office, Elaine Jones is singing the praises of Paul Hollywood’s fig roll recipe. A few minutes later, she’s zipped over to Audrey’s hair salon and is repeating Lord Sugar’s life maxim: ‘Look after your character and your reputation will take care of itself.’ It was actually US evangelist Dwight L. Moody who coined the phrase, but it’s decent advice anyway. Before long, Elaine pops up in Bolton. She’s moving around quicker than everyone did in the final series of Game Of Thrones.

Steve McDonald has a thin grasp of most subjects and now the difference between naturists and naturalists can be added to the lengthy list. He confuses a fondness for going naked with Sir David Attenborough’s profession. In Steve’s mind, Frozen Planet must be a very different TV programme.

Griff’s faked petition against the community centre being used to aid refugees comes in for some deserved mockery. Gary Windass reckons Mickey Mouse probably signed it, while Daryan Zahawi chips in with Spider-Man, Lara Croft and Harry Potter. Which illustrates that another way for good men and women to prevent the triumph of evil is by taking the piss.
